Since I last posted.
Thank goodness that winter is over and Spring is here! The lazy blossoms of the azealeas are finally opening up to show off their freckled little faces! Well, some are freckled....the large-flowered azealeas. I see buds forming on the gardenias, it won't be too long until their heady scent fills the air! And I'm so lucky! I have three gardenia bushes right here close to my studio. We have two large bushes inside the fence up front and at night, as the walkers stride by, you can hear them exclaim how heavenly the gardenias smell. It's nice to know that we provide a small pleasure for them as they take their evening walks.
I have a wonderful friend that I must tell you about. Her name is, well, we'll just call her the "16th Street Fairy"! She is the most wonderful friend that you could imagine! She made me the most beautiful Pansy Brooch, really, it is to die for! And Lavender sachets. The smell will whisk you away and settle you upon a star! It's divine! She has a secret source for the most wonderful lavender! But her handiwork, you would think that the sachet itself was an antique from someones greatgrandmother's box of treasures! Her handwork is superb and the styling is impeccable! I would love to see her sell them and the flower brooches on Etsy as she is incredibly talented!!!

Well it's been quite a while since I've posted anything. I've been so busy with Etsy! I've met so many wonderful people, my customers are just lovely! I love everyone of them! I've outgrown my "spare bedroom studio" and will soon be moving into my REAL studio! It has taken my sweet hubby a while to get it done but he's almost there! I'm really excited to get moved in and set up....hopefully I'll be able to post pictures. My camera has been having issues with my computer so I'm thinking I may have to use hubby's camera. My computer isn't set up to accept pictures from his so he'll have to email them to me, blah, blah, blah, lol!
I can't believe it's almost October! Usually I start decorating for Halloween in August as it takes me a solid week to get everything down from the attic and set up. But this year I don't have the time so I will post some pix from Halloweens past. I collect antique costumes and vintage Halloween decor plus I've made a lot of things so I have a lot of pictures! I have to say tho that I am really loving the black and white Halloween and that's what I have out this year (what little I DO have out!).
I'm just posting random pix here. Anything to spice up this poor neglected blog!!!

After about 30 attempts to get my Etsy link working, it FINALLY is working! They did some major maintenance over there so I think something was up on their end....:)

I wanted to show you some new things that I made over the weekend....:) Oh yeah, if anyone goes to WalMart and see's the "Tuscan Pizza" in the deli, it's REALLY good! Can you believe it? And I'm not even a pizza fan!

Some of the pix may have lines in them, that's because I scanned the items and my darn scanner makes lines in the pix! Does anyone know a cure? I've done all of the troubleshooting that they recommend.

The pendants above have a front and back....I'll let you guess what goes with what! Ha!

We had to turn on the heat again and just a few days ago the air conditioner was running. I found the cutest thing at an antique shop a few weeks ago. Faux concrete items. I need to take some pictures of them so you can see. I got 3 things, 2 faux birdbaths and 1 faux basket with a wire handle. Even the lady at the check out thought they were concrete until she picked them up! I have several ideas on what I want to do with them, just haven't decided for sure which it will be. Anyways, I'll post pictures tomorrow. Really! I promise....:)

Oh, I hope everyone had a wonderful Easter! This was the coldest Easter I can ever remember. I had already planted some tender plants out in pots and they were hit pretty hard altho the roses that are blooming didn't seem to suffer at all and I was certainly happy about that as they are full of blooms and buds. Well, more buds than blooms...:)

I haven't posted for a while because first of all my husband was on vacation. We didn't go out of town but we did spend a lot of time at the lake. The weather was perfect! Secondly, I opened up an Etsy shop and was busy dilly-dallying with that.

My friend over at Wisteriaplace has a contest going on to see who can give her ideas on what to do with her fireplace. Her link is to the right so go on over and visit!

I'm going to try and be better about posting, really!

Do you like strawberries? Look what I made.....it's up at the top. Anyways, it's a strawberry tart and yes, it tasted like Spring! There are some pictures of some of our azealeas starting to bloom out and a rose and some of my pansies. I haven't been very good about taking pictures lately!!!

Obviously these aren't from this year....it's a little early yet! But these are a few of the roses in my yard. I'll be posting more pictures of them but I can only post 5 pictures per post. Anyways, I have lost some of my roses this past year and I have no idea why unless it was the heat and drought. Of course I watered, but there's nothing like a good rain shower! It really kind of breaks my heart to look at these pictures as I see the ones that will be gone this season...:( I guess I'll just have to start anew in those areas. Roses and hydrangeas are my favorites and I have about 50 hydrangea bushes but they too have taken a beating this past year, both from the weather and from "man-made disasters"!

Easter Favors...which one do YOU like best?

I sat today and sewed vintage crepe paper into ruffled lengths and then decided not to use it. Sewing is NOT my favorite thing to do. Anyways, here are some Easter favors that I've been working on, I want to make up a few more different ones but for now this is all I have done. BTW, Charlie says "Hi!"..........

I heard an awful noise outside this afternoon, I thought maybe Charlie had gotten hold of a squirrel or baby racoon or maybe even a young possum. I hurried to the door cringing at the thought of seeing an injured animal and perhaps seeing a bloody mess. But when I got to the door I coul;d see thru the window that all Charlie was doing was "mooshing" (nosing) something much smaller than I expected to see. It was a woodpecker! He was screaming bloody murder! Charlie wasn't hurting it in anyway (he mooshes us, the cats, his food....), the woodpecker was just highly indignant at being treated that way. I made Charlie come in and I attempted to get the woodpecker to scoot on out. I opened both doors on the porch so he would see that escape was imminent but he (or she) was having none of that. It wouldn't go out. I swooshed my arms this way and that way thinking I'd startle it enough and it would leave. Nothing I did could persuade this fine feathered friend to exit the porch. It's about 7:30 p.m. here now and that darn woodpecker is still out there on the porch even tho it has been given it's privacy and both doors are still open. If it is a "she", do you suppose she wants my front porch to raise her first brood of the season in? Irregardless of her plans, I'm not going to get too pushy....did you see the length and sharpness of that beak?

This is the second time I have tried to post to my blog this morning. The first time my computer decided to go crazy on me, grrr!

The jar has 5 doz. painted, speckled and waxed paper mache eggs in it, I just love bird eggs! That was all of the eggs that I could find in that size but I do have a lot of regular size eggs that I'm thinking of doing in more neutral colors. I can see it in my mind.....natural looking eggs on a nest of moss on a pretty plate...mmmm! I'll post a pic when I get them done.

I started working on some little Easter favors last night, hopefully I will get time to work on them more today. I need so badly to get my Easter decor down from the attic. Do you decorate for Easter? I like to decorate for every season/holiday altho the last couple of years I don't always do it. I think I've accumulated too much STUFF and now I feel overwhelmed. But I do so love all the "eye candy"!

Well it's been a few days since I posted. It's been busy around here!
I don't know what's up with my scanner...it's producing lines in the pictures of the scanned items.
Here are a few eggs that I've made, they measure about 4" by 7".....I may make a banner with them or I may just use them on Easter cards.
I finally finished the 5 dozen blue eggs I was working on. I put them in a large jar that I put a repro label on...I like them. I will try and get a picture up soon!
My heart goes out to Doris, who recently lost her husband.

Color of the day!

The color of the day is "Robin's Egg Blue", which also happens to be my favorite color of the month...:) I've been busy painting the small papier mache eggs, thought I had three dozen but it turns out I have 5 dozen. Which actually is great as I want to put these in a large glass bowl when I get done with them.

Aren't these M&M's pretty? I have a large ceramic blue egg (which you can see a bit of in the first picture) that I'm going to put them in, unless I come up with something better. I am so ready for SPRING!

I needed this tub! Not sure how I'll utilize it yet tho.... Any ideas?

I never had allergies 'til we moved to GA. Now it's a year round thing. I wake up feeling like poo and looking twice that bad! Nose so stuffed up, eyes all red and swollen/puffy, mouth hanging open so I can breathe, ha! This morning the mailperson (usually it's a mailMAN, guess we have a new one...a she...:) )left 2 packages on my front porch and thanks to Charlie (bark, bark!) I knew someone was around. Bless her heart, she brought my other mail up to the porch and gave it to me. That was so sweet of her! I thanked her in my early morning raspy voice and noticed an odd look on her face, nice and friendly, but like she was concerned. I took my stuff and went back inside and happened to look in the mirror. I saw why she looked concerned....I looked like I had just crawled out of a coffin and had put my pants on backwards! Guess she thought I'd been on an all-nighter or something,ha! Or maybe she thought she should call 911....who knows. Anyways, I turned my pants around (they DID feel funny...) and stumbled back into the kitchen to begin the morning ritual of the first feeding of the day for the animals.I was in such a fog I hope everybody got the right thing! I hate allergies.....

Birds are beautiful

and sweet and charming. We feed the birds here on a regular basis, or rather hubby does. He fills all the feeders with sunflower seeds and the sweet little birds are so appreciative! They show their thanks by building nests all over our yard and raising their cherubic fledglings where we can watch them grow up.

I have "conditioned" a pair of mockingbirds to come to where I am by shaking a canister of raisins. They love them and when their young are old enough they bring them along. The babies then recognize that "Hey, that woman has goodies!" and proceed to scold me until I present them with a handful. The robins, catbirds, brown thrashers, rufous towhees, squirrels and racoons like them too!

Occasionally we get a bluebird in the backyard. They come and seem to be checking out the area to see if it would make a nice home. Apparently we have never passed the test for we have never had any nest back there. But they are so beautiful and a sight to behold with the sun glistening off of their blue feathers. We have Carolina wrens that live here too and one of their favorite places to build a nest is in the basement. Poor hubby has to keep and eye out for them as if they build in the basement they aren't able to come and go as needed. One year a pair succeeded in not only building a nest in the basement but also laying eggs in it. We had no choice but to leave the basement door open day and night until the babies left the nest. We didn't mind tho...:)

Well, hubby decided he didn't want to go to the movie after all. He's all caught up in a Jon Katz book and didn't want to leave it. That's great because I really didn't want to go anyways!
I regularly visit a forum where a challenge was issued by one of the board mommas----we are to do a piece that relays, thru artwork, who we are. I was worried that mine was all wrong because it ended up showing my inner feelings instead of "who I am" (well, some of them) but then realized that what we feel IS who we are. I really didn't say that right! Of course I knew that what we feel is who we are but, well, I thought I needed to , ok, I guess I'm not sure what I thought I was supposed to do. But I will post the pic of the piece as soon as it's dry enough to go on the scanner. Would appreciate any thoughts!

and found some real treasures....Somerset Studio's "The Art of Paper and Mixed Media" 10th anniversary issue,Sommerset Home, and Inspirations! It was my lucky day! My next lucky day will be when I have time to sit and look thru them...:) Hubby wants to go see "Ghost Rider" today, and I really need to get off of this computer and fix something to eat, ha! We skipped dinner (not to mention lunch, and we don't eat breakfast anyways) yesterday because we went to our new Sam's and they had a whole lot of sampling going on! Ha! I really don't like frozen prepared foods but it was offered and I was hungry! Lousy food but it somewhat filled the hole, so to speak. But now I am ravenous and I know poor hubby has got to be hungry too. Better go before the League of Liberals Against Spouse Starving comes a-knocking on my door...;)

Happy Valentine's Day!
Hope everyone had a great day and that your Honey surprised you with something containing words of love! My Honey is out of town and altho we exchanged words of love via cell phone, we will celebrate this weekend. I'm keeping my fingers crossed that something that I ordered for him comes by Friday! If not, all is not lost as I have him a goodie basket all fixed up and I made him a scrapbook of his family! He WILL be surprised at that as he had no idea I was doing it.
It is soooo cold here in GA today....we had a few little spits of snow this morning! Luckily I was in my SUV, which is black, so I could see the teeny tiny flakes...lol! The wind was blowing and the cold cut thru you like an icy blade....brrr! I am SO ready for Spring....:)

Valentine's Day is this coming Wednesday. I'm posting some more Valentines for anyone that may need to make a last minute card (or whatever).
We rented the movie "The Descent" and poor hubby is having to watch it on his laptop. And why is he watching it on his laptop? Because it wont play in the DVD player. We have rented it 3 different times....twice from NetFlix and once from a local video store....and NONE of them would play in the DVD player! Weird.....we've never had this happen before. We watched "The Guardian" last night, no problem with it or any other movie! BTW, "The Guardian" is an "OK" movie....the beginning and the ending are the best parts. In between the two was a bit boring so I napped a bit, ha! Tonight we are going to watch "Flags of our Fathers"....hope it's good! One movie that we really enjoyed was "The Illusionist"..... great ending too! This is our weekly weekend routine, we go out to eat, then come home and watch movies. Sounds boring perhaps, but I love routine!

This is truely horrific....how can these boys live with themselves? I read a lot of stories where the perpetrators are teenagers. Is it because of a lack of discipline? Lack of stability in the home? Why are there so many teenagers with no feelings whatsoever toward another living thing? It's a scary world out there...be careful.

I love these old dog pictures....I have a book full of them. Do you see a resemblence between the young man and his dog? Well at least bodywise they are both a bit stocky!

I know, I know....I didn't post yesterday. I was besieged by the worst case of "sinus" that I've experienced in a long time. I swear someone was blowing up a heavy duty balloon inside my head! The pressure was horrible and I ended up taking 3 different meds, which I think, combined, added to my woes. Plus they never did help! I feel so much better today, thank goodness!!!
I'm going to post some vintage French postcards and a few pix of some altered art that I've done. The altered art pix aren't that good as I put a glossy antiqing medium on them and they produce quite a glare when photographed head-on. I guess I could have scanned them but some are framed and I just didn't.

Well, I went "thrifting" today and was pleased with what I found since it's been a LONG time since I found anything interesting. My first treasure was a set of 4 Fireking Jadite cups and 3 saucers....got those for $2.95. Then a pretty china coffee cup for $1, the pattern is called "Highland Queen" and is rimmed in the inside with thistle. Also got a vintage french plate with flowers on it. I'll post pix of these soon. Went on to another shop and found the cutest vintage little boys hat with a round pin on it. It's in the kitchen and I'm lazy so I'll tell you more about it later! But it is darling!

Here are the promised pix of the pink house. Over half of my pix didn't come out as I had the camera on the wrong setting...:) Anyways, I think you can get a good idea of how it looks. You can easily tell the part that hasn't been repainted, I just love this pink! The picture of the window isn't very good but it's a stained glass window with what looks like a crest design ....a shield with a banner thru it.
I'll take more pix and update as the new paint job progresses. BTW, can't you just imagine a bunch of hydrangeas (in all their many different shades) all along the house? Mmmmmm.....!

We went out to eat tonight....shouldn't have. The food was good but it was too crowded for me. We'll go earlier next time.
I am posting a few pictures of glass slide charms that I made for Valentines Day, I was going to post more pix but as I was taking them my camera went dead.
I really enjoy making the glass slide charms, I LOVE to solder...don't know why. Maybe it's the way the molten solder just slides on like magic. I've made charms for Christmas, Halloween, Valentines and a few non-holiday related ones. Guess I'll start on Easter next. I made 2 for my oldest daughter but she didn't like them....I wasn't surprised, ha! I do like them and I wear them often. I get nice comments on them when we go to a larger city.....but here in Podunk no one says anything, I think they mainly go for the WalMart stuff, you know the "I saw 42 people with that on and now I want one too" kind of stuff. I'm not being rude, just honest.
I am so itching to get out in the yard and play! I absolutely adore hydrangeas and roses.....I'll post some pics of my yard from years past. I need a Springtime hit....bad!
I'd love to learn to knit....anyone willing to teach me????? ;) I have seen some darling things on other blogs, maybe I'll get a book and teach myself. I could always knit my dog a hat.....or a toy (which he would demolish in 41 seconds).

Well, I certainly haven't kept this up have I! I'm going to try to do better...:)
I need to get some pictures in order so I can post them here. I've started doing some altered art....so much fun! I have a lot to "learn" tho. I find that I tend to NOT lean towards the wild and wacky look (although I LOVE looking at other people's work....I enjoy all types!)
I feel like I am at a disadvantage because I live in a small town and supplies and other goodies are hard to get. I do a lot of shopping online....:) I ADORE vintage items and anything (almost) with a cottagy (cottagey?) look. Actually, I "LOVE" way too many things, I guess I'm just a collector. Wish I could "collect" some more storage space! Hmmmm....if dear one would give me his closet..........;) Highly unlikely.
I'll see if I can post a picture here of a piece of "altered art" that I did, nothing impressive.....remember I'm rather new to this. I'll just post it so that there's something to look at...:)

OK, now I know I can post pictures. The above picture of the rose is a shot from my garden last year. I'll post more in the coming days.
Do you enjoy the holidays? I do, although not as much as I did when my daughters were nearby. But I still decorate and at least hubby and I can enjoy it! Right now I'm all decked out for the 4th of July. Although you can't see it well , this is a patriotic dress from the 40's with a vintage crepe paper and cardboard hat. The dress with the prominent stars on it is something I made after losing an auction for an antique patriotic costume on Ebay. It's not an exact copy but it's close enough for me!
Somehow I'm not getting the pictures where I want them to be, please bear with me! The long white gown is something I picked up at a thrift store and embellished,ha!
Well darn! These pictures are just going wherever they want to!!! I'll just put some up to give you an idea of how I decorate for the 4th......
I see that I don't have any handy for the outside but I'll try to rectify that soon!
Too bad the 4th is in July,ha! It's gotten to where it's so hot and humid that BBQing isn't much fun anymore. But I know that if I ask him to, dear hubby will suffer thru the heat and do the grilling. I have to admit that I haven't even planned what to have on the 4th this year, I need to get on that!
